HOME FOLDER EXAMPLE
For The First Da We will meet on the intermediate field!
Our Daily pick up and drop off spot is out the back doors near the portables!
Classroom Information:
Home/Reading Folders: Students will each have a "Home/Reading Folder". (see image above) That will go home Fridays to start with. Students will return them on Mondays for the month of September (there will be no home reading at this time, but probably information sheets and permission forms to check). The easiest way not to loose this is to simply keep it in their backpack. It is they way all paperwork, etc will be sent home.
*I will send out a schedule near the end of september via email to let you know which day your child will have their "Home folder/home reading" check in day. That will be the day to bring back the folder going forward for the rest of the year. This ensures that I can get to every child each week!
2. Incentive Programs: Jewel Jar- to promote classroom community students will work on doing positive things for others and earning jewels. When the jar is full I will send home and email and students will get a PJ Day with a Fun Snack!!
For work habits I have a PomPom sysytem that we will use. They collect mini pompoms for showing positive work ethics in the classroom. They can then cash these in to purchase Desk Pets! and accessories for their pets.
Golden Eagles: Your Child may come home with a GOLDEN EAGLE Ticket. This is a ticket given to them by a staff member in the school for following the Arden Way! All Golden Eagle recipients are also placed in a draw for lunch out with the principal each month!
Morning Soft Starts: We have found over the years that students do better when they are given a "soft start " to the day. First thing in the mornings we will do a math booklet routine then after announcements we will go outside or to gym to get all the wiggles out!
Forest Exploration: We will be spending one day each week in the forest for 45min. We will be doing a variety of activities including, exploration, play, games etc. PLEASE come dressed for the weather and muck! Forest Play will be Friday afternoons
School Absence: if your child is going to be away please email both myself and the office to let them know!
Classroom Communication: I will communicate classroom news and messages to you via email. Please ensure your email is updated with the school office!
Report Cards: This year I will be using MyEducation which is a report card type format, rather than an e-portfolio platform. I have found this to be a more concise way to relay your child's progress. You will receive a report card 3x this year (December, March and June) I will be collecting their work throughout each term into a portfolio for you to see at Parent Teacher interviews in November and the Celebration of Learning in March or April.
Home Reading: Home reading will be starting end of September. Please hit the "home reading" link to see more information about our program this year. Home reading will also encompass Sight words for Grade 2.
Spelling: I am implementing a spelling component this year for both Grade 2 and 3. There will be weekly "tests" but they are more check in's. We are not memorizing words but working with the phonics behind the words. If you don't have time to study at home, they will be getting lots of practice at school each week.
Party Invitations: Feel free to send in party invitations, I don't mind helping deliver discreetly. You can also send me a digital invitation and I can email them out for you.
TOYS!!!: The school has a no toy policy at recesses. I encourage everyone to please not send toys to school, including Pokémon cards. If your child has a special stuffy that they use to support anxiety please send me an email and we will absolutely accommodate that. Toys, unfortunately, have become a VERY tricky tool to navigate a recess and are often the source of arguments or lost.
